A new Project

I'll keep this brief as I'm on hour 31 of a long day of travelling.

I propose we make a database of information about the Elithian Alliance, like the AED but actually advanced. I was thinking running it as a database with accompanying portal and wiki-app as a downloadable program but we would need very well detailed articles on everything.

As such if we want to even attempt something like this we need to quickly save/copy all of the 237 pages of the THEA RP on the sporums so that we have something to use as fuel for articles about long past events, races etc.

Past that we need all the "THEA" spore creations saved, and catalogued with descriptions to contribute. Beyond that point we have all the data that could go missing out of our control.


Lastly I thought of different name for it, the "Aeroixicanicum".

The pages on the Sporum could be backed up by simply selecting the entire page and pasting it into a word editor. I tried to copy the first page into MS Word, but that took a very long time, and the formatting of the pages was messed up. Pasting into Notepad worked better, though all images are lost that way.

Saving all of the Spore creations will be a bit harder - last time I tried, I wasn't even able to log in to Spore anymore...

CTRL-S, Save the webpages to a folder in your downloads then upload them as a zip to media fire or something. Or use the multi-quote function to try and get all the BBcode versions and paste them in this topic as it'll show up properly here as well.

Also the US sporepedia website still works but the search function is borked, so we would need to manually go through everyone's creations... Why you couldn't log into Spore is due to it requiring Origin now, but I have no idea how to transfer your account...

And yes it is a lot of work. We need things like actual biological information on each race as well. I have a lot in mind for the Notix luckily.

Also I was thinking about using "LifeRay Community Edition" which is apparently perfect Yay for having a Dad who works with this sort of software for a job!for our use and free and if we where to ever to get an official website we could host a version online.

To go with this new project, I've decided to finish my new map of Elithia (the one I used as a base while building the Civilization 5 map of Elithia). The map is 10240 by 5120 pixels in size, so it will take me quite some time to finish it - especially with college starting again next week.

The map is quite different from the original map found on the first page of the Sporum thread - the placement of the continents has changed, some of the islands on the old map are gone, while new ones have been added. I've also broken up the continents a lot more - new rivers and seas now clearly distinguish the continents of Aegonia and Desparia, whereas the two used to be one solid landmass. The deserts have also changed a lot - so much in fact that the story may have to be altered a bit.

Speaking of altering the story, some of the events from the Original Roleplay will have to be changed a bit, for various reasons. The most important reason is probably that the original story had a lot of inconsistencies caused by the fact that people forget what has happened in the past, or decide they want to change the way they play in the roleplay. One major change that I'd like to make is to the timeline itself, by shortening it by about ten times. The Original Roleplay ended in 73,891 AA, meaning that the Aegi would have been on Elithia for over 70,000 years before the Blast. Looking back at it, that seems like an unrealistically long time, considering how little they have changed. Around 7000 years seems more reasonable, while still providing plenty of time for all the the events that happened the roleplay.

Yeah Aeg new maps would be brilliant, I need to look for a tool to more easily make city maps as that's the level of detail I would love to reach.

I was think about a map of the known galaxiosphere which would have waypoints for important Aeroix, then maps of the Aeroix with each planet etc.

More galactic maps would be nice, yeah! 

There already is a map of the Milky Way, with locations of the Gar-Aeroix and the Hyzilfos Aeroix, along with the Sycentia Aeroix (Thelean home system), the Sol Aeroix (Earth!) and the Siya-4-BZ Aeroix, which was created by Veoline. I'm planning to update that map sometime soon.

City maps would be awesome, but they are very hard to build, especially for a large cities, let alone a gigantic metropolis like Creon. If you can find a tool for making those a bit easier, that would be awesome!

Out of interest how huge is Creon?

I'm not envying you making a map of Creon but atleast it's just one big city. I to make a map of Tranq-While... It's a huge subterranean complex spanning so many layers deep into the ground the depths of it are not entirely mapped/inhabited.

And I have to make of Snowcloud - 6 [?] the artificial planet, and of Har-Monee...

Text based articles first Speaking of which I am heavily rewriting the Notix. Younger me made them too fantasy for my liking. Older more intelligent me is focusing on the Sci bit of Sci-Fi.

I can't give you exact numbers (because I simply don't know them), but Creon City is very large, probably around the size of New York city. The city is located on an island inside the Capital Bay on Creon Island. Here's Creon Island on the map I'm drawing (do mind it's still a WIP):

Speaking of the map of Elithia, the main geography is about 60% done now. This is just the shape of all the landmasses, along with the general areas of the deserts. The map will also show the locations of Elithia's major cities, its continents and other points of interest.

I'm also rewriting a lot of stuff about the Aegi. Some of the new things I have in mind have already been referenced to in my last posts in the Original Roleplay: the Aeginian Union, to those outside, looks like a paradise. It has very low crime rates and little to no poverty, but there's a lot of internal conflict going on which the Aeginian government tends to hide from the outside world. There are many factions within the Aeginian Union, and before the Blast, the government was very corrupted.
I'm also making big changes to their philosophy, structure of government, economy etc, to make them more realistic and more interesting.

I am very good at making hand drawn maps, I can try to make something of Scii or Athana. But the thing is, there really aren't any original maps of them before, so I will have to completely make one up.

The map looks great, but remember about the Creon University?

Yeah, the University was located on a series of small islands near Creon City. I'm still not entirely sure where to place these yet, and most of them are so small that they're less than a pixel in size on my map.

A map of Scii or Athana would be great! The more maps we have, the better!

You could do a circle on the map with the university island on and simply show that island magnified. It appears that all the mapping tools that would work cost somewhat. Looks like I need to get good with GIMP or have someone graphically minded help me with that.

Should we work out what we actually need to do?

Archive data
Currently underway by kingnecromancer. Getting all the data and information so that none is lost. This means the Sporums and Sporepedia.

Write Articles
We would need to translate the collected data into articles. Perhaps we can minimize the "Elithian Game" Section into 1 and create 1 section with the sole purpose of dumping collected data, working on articles, receiving peer assessments and providing a place for downloads.

Assemble Articles
Collate the articles and provide an actual program.

A most important guide that interlinked to more detailed articles.

I've added a couple of small islands to Capital Bay for the Creon University. I might make a separate map of Creon sometime, with more details about city districts etc, but I'll first finish the map of Elithia. Currently, most of its landmasses have been mapped, with only one large landmass remaining. After that, I'm going to add some more details - smaller islands, rivers etc - and city locations to the map.

Nice list, Notix! I'll start working on some articles after I finish the map, starting with the Aeginian Union, then more global stuff about Elithia, the Alliance etc.

If you want me to, I could try and help you with your map. I don't use any mapping tools, instead I just paint the landmasses by hand using Paint.NET. I'm thinking of taking the file into Photoshop when it's done, to try and add some more artistic stuff to it, but that would take a while.

Quick question of wording, would Aegioid be a suitable replacement for Humanoid?

I'd use Aegoid, easier to read and pronounce than Aegioid. The term Humanoid is still sometimes used on Elithia, though, so you could use either.

The map of Elithia is now almost done, with the entire geography completed, most islands and regions named, and several cities added to the map. The new map is, in many ways, quite different from the original, with several major landmarks etc having been moved to new locations. These include the Gar- and Kri-Mesae, and the Gar- and Kri-Maera. I've also added new deserts and seas, and have given additional names for some of the existing locations. For example, the Gar-Maera is now also known as the Tamarean Sea. I will share the full map with you soon!

I've also started working on some articles, including one that explains how the Aegi accomplish FTL travel.

The map is now pretty much finished! I've added names to almost all islands - with the exception of some very small ones, and some groups of islands have only been named as a group - and other geographical locations. I've also added more cities to the map, and made a map that shows all of the continents and sub-continents on Elithia.

I want to post the map here soon, but I'm still looking for the right site to host it on. The forum's gallery doesn't have enough space for the maps, and having read the terms of use of Imgur, I'm not sure if I want to post the full map on there.

DeviantArt's TOS seems good enough, thanks for the suggestion! I've done some more editing, and made the map feel a bit more like a satelite image than just a simple map. In the version I've uploaded now, only geographical locations are visible, cities are not yet added to it.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Copperstone Isle is an island that is very rich in materials, and is one of the Aegi's primary mining sites. As it is incredibly valuable to the Aegi and the Alliance, it is a highly fortified island, with high walls all along the coast and anti-air weaponry dotting the island. It's also rich in ancient artifacts from various civilizations, including ancient Dremeton and Craton civilizations, the Theleans and even the Centens.

I wanted to ask how will be organise the articles? Do we do it by Aeroix? Or just list the species etc. Where do we include sub-species or artificial lifeforms? How do we categorise civilizations?

And also how do we set up the actual articles for a species? What about?
