24/7 server

So guys, I've been thinking about spending some money to get a external server host to be able to host the server 24/7, this would be easier for all of us and most probably more fun too.

I really wouldn't mind spending some money since an external server host isn't very expensive and we would still be in charge.

This is strange I was discussing something similar was Necro.

Maybe try to run it off donations? I'm sure something could be worked out. (Such as access to some companies services for free! [I'll happily supply a free beer a day to a donator for a month!])

This sounds like a good idea! How much would such a server cost, actually? Using donations and rewards would probably be the best way to sustain the server, and free access to some services sounds nice! Any other suggestions for rewards?

How about some advertising on the Minecraft forums if we go 24/7? More players could be fun!

The server costs depend on the RAM needed I wouldn't mind paying for a small server, even if it won't win me back any money, we could even split the cost. However if the RAM required is too much, I won't be able to pay for it all since it can lead up to about 60/70 dollars per month... so, could you tell me how much a tekkit server would use? or otherwise a normal server might be better

Tekkit servers use 3+ GB or RAM.

What should donation perks be? (It shouldn't be pay to win!)

Nicknames
Discount to Certain Companies
Preference by some Companies
Small area protected
Priority Login
A Warp
Certain Permits

I'd say that the perks should be something like Recoloured Names, not like Mob Disguise. I think Mob Disguise is way to easy to trick people with.

Good perks would be like Priority Login or a Small Area Protected.

Nice suggestions! The only one that I'm not sure of is Mob Disguise: like Jorgas said, it is very easy to trick others with it, and it may give players a bit too much of an edge.

There are currently no mods installed other than tekkit, also if you have any or problems, please tell me.

Furthermore, I kindly ask of you not to wander too far off as the max RAM we have is 4 GB.
also, The tekkit server will last for a month, if I am really happy with it, I will keep it a tekkit server, if anyone is would like to donate to me to extend the lifetime of the tekkit server I'll have to make it a possibility, however if I don't get any donations or don't really like it, I'll have to kill the server (or maybe make it a vanilla server) because of the costs.
finally, if you want to make use of the EE mod, you are allowed to, but don't connect energy collectors to condensers as they break the game. I can not yet prohibit item usage as I don't have much time anymore in this world, at least not in my room... I will be back later tonight to see if I have to add some people to the server.

Awesome! The server doesn't appear to be up right now, though. Is there a place where donations can be made yet?

HUGE mistake on my part: server IP is 5.9.97.82 mind the 2 instead of the 3... sorry about that... *Sataz looks down in shame* donations... don't have an official thing yet. I'll have to see how that works other than just telling you my bank account number :/

anyway, world files yeah, I have made a map with the seed: THEA dont know if we need anything else

also, the idea of playing an adventure map is still open (we could also play a hunger games map or anything else for theat matter (pvp, creative)

I'll join the server soon. If the world seed is THEA, it should be the same world as the one I explored in SSP.

If it hasn't been installed already, you should install the CreeperControl plug-in. It is a very lightweight and simple creeper nerfing plug-in, the same I used when I ran the server.
