We didn't choose it. The Colony Ray we built wasn't working. We were trying to get to the island of Utaunav, the land of science.
EDIT: We shall, once we know what we look like. We have yet to invent imaging technology or mirrors, and we unfortunately do not have access to reflective material. The species as a whole cannot know what its species looks like until it has seen every member.
Our forum for the above purpose is to occur sometime later today.
